Gommateshwara Statue of Karkala

King Veera Pandya, at the insistence of his Guru Lalitakeerti, the pontiff of Karkala Jain Math, installed this large statue of Bahubali also known as Gommateshwara. The installation date, as mentioned in Wikipedia is 13th February 1432.

The Gommateshwara statue is in the rocky hill of Karkala and requires little bit of hiking to reach the foot of the statue. It was almost closing time and dark when we arrived in front of Bahubali.

I captured this photo with my Sony A5100 without flash and in fully auto mode. The only source of light was that of temple light that focused on the Gommateshwara Statue.

The Gommateshwara statue of Karkala and the Karkala city itself is a place to explore. Read them all in Wikipedia.
