The Volkswagen Micro Bus or the Mini Bus stood amongst several vintage classics in UB City, Bengaluru. By the look of the bus and the information provided in the Wikipedia, I assume this model is Volkswagen Type 2 and dates to 1966. This vintage was popular by many names such as “Micro Van”, “Mini Van”, “Hippie Van or Hippie Bus”, “Splitty” and “Bully.”
Volkswagen Hippie Van
The Volkswagen Splitty produced before 1967 had a split front windshield and hence became popular as Splitty. Later, the vans with single curvy windshields were popular as bay window.
In the 1960’s the Volkswagen van became very popular with its ability to transport a large group of people and being cheap to maintain. The youngsters, specially the music bands loved this van and usually painted it in bright colours to make it stand out.
